How to read this page. It is written so you can check it: every claim about evidence hangs from a reference with its PubMed identifier, and we state just as plainly what is known and what is not. You will not find dosages or protocols anywhere on this site.

The ground it plays on

Hormones work in axes: a signal from the brain tells a gland to release another hormone, and so on down the chain, with brakes that shut the process off. Intervening at one point has consequences both upstream and downstream. That is why this is the group where professional assessment stops being a recommendation and becomes essential.

What it is studied for

Labor, postpartum bleeding control, social response.

There is a distinction that almost always gets lost. A compound being studied for something is not the same as achieving it. And even where it works in a dish or in a mouse, that says little about whether it works in a person or whether the benefit is worth the risk. The section below therefore carries more weight than everything above it.

What the human evidence says

There is established clinical use in obstetrics, backed by Cochrane reviews that bring together dozens of randomized trials. By the intranasal route, the largest trial in children and adolescents with autism (2021) found no difference from placebo, and a 2024 trial in 61 adults with obesity showed lower intake at a test meal with no change in weight.

The limitation that matters most

Through the nose a small and variable fraction reaches the brain, and the blood level does not reflect release inside the brain. Studies are still missing to confirm its uses for social behavior, sexual response, and social anxiety.

Regulatory status

Injectable approved by the FDA to induce or strengthen labor when there is a medical indication and to control postpartum bleeding. Intranasal use for social behavior, appetite, or sexual response is not approved, and the nasal solution that existed in the United States is listed as discontinued. It does not appear by name on the WADA 2026 Prohibited List.

Status can change and varies by country. Always verify the rules in force where you live before drawing conclusions.

Cautions and context

Because it resembles vasopressin, it retains water and can lower blood sodium, and it contracts the uterus, so it is avoided when pregnancy is possible. With the intranasal form, the effect on social behavior is subtle and depends on the context.

With low sodium, treatment with desmopressin or diuretics, arrhythmias, or uncontrolled blood pressure, medical assessment comes before considering it.

This is not medical advice. Any decision about a compound in this encyclopedia belongs to a healthcare professional who knows your history, what you already take and your specific situation. If something you are using produces a new symptom, that is not something to observe — it is something to consult.

What this page cannot give you

A reference page can take you this far. You know what Oxytocin is and where its research stands, which already puts you ahead of most readers. Four questions remain that no encyclopedia can answer for you, because the answers depend on your own situation:

That is what the course is for

PeptiXtreme is ${CIF.LECCIONES} lessons that hand out no numbers. Each one ends with your starting point, what to watch along the way, the specific questions you take to a professional and the signals that mean stop. It includes per-module exams, a Certificate of Completion with a verifiable certificate ID, a Progress Tracker to follow how you are doing, and a human advisor you can actually write to.

Frequently asked questions

What is Oxytocin?

A peptide hormone of nine amino acids that the hypothalamus releases into the blood, where it contracts the uterus and makes milk flow, and into the brain, where it modulates bonding and trust. It is studied within the area of hormonal/sexual.

Is there human evidence for Oxytocin?

There is established clinical use in obstetrics, backed by Cochrane reviews that bring together dozens of randomized trials. By the intranasal route, the largest trial in children and adolescents with autism (2021) found no difference from placebo, and a 2024 trial in 61 adults with obesity showed lower intake at a test meal with no change in weight.

Is it approved by any health agency?

Injectable approved by the FDA to induce or strengthen labor when there is a medical indication and to control postpartum bleeding. Intranasal use for social behavior, appetite, or sexual response is not approved, and the nasal solution that existed in the United States is listed as discontinued. It does not appear by name on the WADA 2026 Prohibited List.

What is the dose of Oxytocin?

We do not publish dosages. This is not an oversight. No single figure works for everyone: the regimen depends on a person's medical history, on whatever medication they already take, and on the goal they are chasing, which is something a professional weighs with the case in front of them. What you can build is the ability to walk into that appointment knowing what to ask.

Where can I learn to evaluate this properly?

This page tells you what Oxytocin is and what the evidence says. The PeptiXtreme course teaches the other half: what you would measure before considering anything, what you would watch, the specific questions you would take to a professional and when you would stop.
