A natural peptide of the hypothalamus that activates the KISS1R receptor on GnRH neurons and, through them, sets in motion the release of LH and FSH in the reproductive axis.

The ground it plays on
Hormones work in axes: a signal from the brain tells a gland to release another hormone, and so on down the chain, with brakes that shut the process off. Intervening at one point has consequences both upstream and downstream. That is why this is the group where professional assessment stops being a recommendation and becomes essential.
What it is studied for
Reproductive axis, sexual desire, fertility.
There is a distinction that almost always gets lost. A compound being studied for something is not the same as achieving it. And even where it works in a dish or in a mouse, that says little about whether it works in a person or whether the benefit is worth the risk. What the human evidence says
There are phase 1 and 2 studies in people, done in hospital: kisspeptin raises LH and FSH acutely, increases LH pulses in hypothalamic amenorrhea, and achieved egg maturation in an in vitro fertilization study with 53 women, with ten births.
The limitation that matters most
With repeated, closely spaced stimulation the receptor adapts and the response drops, and prolonged use to sustain hormones or restore the cycle remains to be evaluated. The studies are small, of few sessions, and were done in a clinical setting.
Regulatory status
Not approved by any agency as a drug. In the United States, the FDA included kisspeptin-10 in 2023 in its Category 2 of substances for compounding, and it remains so in 2026. Prohibited in men at all times by WADA (S2.2.1, 2026 list).
Status can change and varies by country. Always verify the rules in force where you live before drawing conclusions.
Cautions and context
Moving the first step of the reproductive axis has cascading effects on LH, FSH, and sex hormones, and with continuous stimulation the receptor adapts and the response drops. Hormone-sensitive tumors, pregnancy, and breastfeeding call for a medical assessment beforehand.
With amenorrhea, hypogonadism, fertility treatment, or a hormone-sensitive tumor, it is worth assessing with endocrinology and with LH and sex hormones measured from the start.
