The ground it plays on
Two very different things live under the same label here: serious research into mitochondria, cellular senescence and DNA repair, and a market of promises built on studies that were never replicated. Telling them apart is most of the work, and this is the area where it matters most to look at who signed each study.
What it is studied for
Advertised for liver function.
There is a distinction that almost always gets lost. A compound being studied for something is not the same as achieving it. And even where it works in a dish or in a mouse, that says little about whether it works in a person or whether the benefit is worth the risk. What the human evidence says
No trials in people treated with Livagen have been published. What exists with human material is laboratory work: lymphocytes from older adults in which chromatin decondensed, and human serum in which the enzymes that break down enkephalins were inhibited.
The limitation that matters most
The studies come from the St. Petersburg school and a collaborating group in Tbilisi, largely in Russian, without independent replication. Outcomes such as liver enzymes, fibrosis or digestion have yet to be measured in people, along with pharmacokinetics and safety.
Regulatory status
It is not approved as a medicine by the FDA, the EMA or any other agency, and no record of registration in Russia was found. It is not listed by name on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List; anyone who competes under anti-doping control should confirm with their federation whether category S0, for substances without health-authority approval, applies.
