Epitalon: what it is and what the evidence says
A peptide studied for its relationship with telomerase regulation and rhythms associated with cellular aging. It is a synthetic tetrapeptide derived from a pineal gland extract; in cultured human cells it activates telomerase, and in older adults it has been linked to higher nighttime melatonin.

The ground it plays on
Two very different things live under the same label here: serious research into mitochondria, cellular senescence and DNA repair, and a market of promises built on studies that were never replicated. Telling them apart is most of the work, and this is the area where it matters most to look at who signed each study.
What it is studied for
Longevity, sleep, circadian rhythm.
There is a distinction that almost always gets lost. A compound being studied for something is not the same as achieving it. And even where it works in a dish or in a mouse, that says little about whether it works in a person or whether the benefit is worth the risk. The section below therefore carries more weight than everything above it.
What the human evidence says
In older adults with low pineal function, small studies (2004 and 2007) found higher nighttime melatonin with epithalamin and with Epitalon. The long mortality follow-ups (2003 and 2006), which describe random assignment, were done with epithalamin, the pineal extract it derives from.
The limitation that matters most
The synthetic tetrapeptide still lacks modern clinical trials that are registered and repeated at other centers, and its pharmacokinetics in people have yet to be published. Telomere lengthening has been seen in cultured cells, including at an independent laboratory in 2025, and has yet to be measured in people.
Regulatory status
It is not approved as a drug by the FDA or the EMA; its parent extract, epithalamin, was registered in the USSR in 1990. In the United States, the FDA removed it from Category 2 in April 2026, and on July 24, 2026 its advisory committee recommended adding it to the 503A list of bulk substances for pharmacy compounding; the final decision is still pending. It is not listed by name on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List, but category S0 covers substances without approval, so anyone who competes should confirm its status with their federation.
Status can change and varies by country. Always verify the rules in force where you live before drawing conclusions.
Cautions and context
Watch for shifts in your sleep schedule and any sign of allergy. Because of its link to telomerase, with active or past cancer the decision is made with your oncologist, and screenings are kept up to date.
With a history of cancer, pregnancy, diabetes under treatment, or undiagnosed insomnia, have a professional assess it before you start and while you are on it.
What this page cannot give you
A reference page can take you this far. You know what Epitalon is and where its research stands, which already puts you ahead of most readers. Four questions remain that no encyclopedia can answer for you, because the answers depend on your own situation:
- What would you measure beforehand, so that later you could tell whether anything actually changed?
- What would you watch along the way, and how consistently?
- What would you ask a professional, and in how much detail, so you do not walk out with a textbook answer?
- What would make you stop?
That is what the course is for
PeptiXtreme is ${CIF.LECCIONES} lessons that hand out no numbers. Each one ends with your starting point, what to watch along the way, the specific questions you take to a professional and the signals that mean stop. It includes per-module exams, a Certificate of Completion with a verifiable certificate ID, a Progress Tracker to follow how you are doing, and a human advisor you can actually write to.

Frequently asked questions
What is Epitalon?
A peptide studied for its relationship with telomerase regulation and rhythms associated with cellular aging. It is a synthetic tetrapeptide derived from a pineal gland extract; in cultured human cells it activates telomerase, and in older adults it has been linked to higher nighttime melatonin. It is studied within the area of longevity/cellular.
Is there human evidence for Epitalon?
In older adults with low pineal function, small studies (2004 and 2007) found higher nighttime melatonin with epithalamin and with Epitalon. The long mortality follow-ups (2003 and 2006), which describe random assignment, were done with epithalamin, the pineal extract it derives from.
Is it approved by any health agency?
It is not approved as a drug by the FDA or the EMA; its parent extract, epithalamin, was registered in the USSR in 1990. In the United States, the FDA removed it from Category 2 in April 2026, and on July 24, 2026 its advisory committee recommended adding it to the 503A list of bulk substances for pharmacy compounding; the final decision is still pending. It is not listed by name on the 2026 WADA Prohibited List, but category S0 covers substances without approval, so anyone who competes should confirm its status with their federation.
What is the dose of Epitalon?
We do not publish dosages. This is not an oversight. No single figure works for everyone: the regimen depends on a person's medical history, on whatever medication they already take, and on the goal they are chasing, which is something a professional weighs with the case in front of them. What you can build is the ability to walk into that appointment knowing what to ask.
Where can I learn to evaluate this properly?
This page tells you what Epitalon is and what the evidence says. The PeptiXtreme course teaches the other half: what you would measure before considering anything, what you would watch, the specific questions you would take to a professional and when you would stop.
